Andrew Lahey was born in Lawrence, MA. His father died when he was about 6 months old. Not a lot is known about his early life. He attended St Patrick's School in Lawrence, and was still in school in 1900, and went to work for the Boston and Main Railroad, eventually becoming a track supervisor.

He died very suddenly of a stroke in 1937.
