The name Butler comes from Bottler or one who works with or keeps the bottles. The inference being that the origional Butler was a wine steward. The Butler came to me the highest servant in an aristocratic household and it was part of his job to maintain the wine celler.

There are two Butler families in this genealogy and I have no idea if they are related as I can find out very little about either on of them.
