Herald of Spring
Hope is on the breeze today
With promises of spring
I saw the robin herald
Drift in on silent wing

He hopped across the winter lawn
So brown and dry and bare
But left me with the knowledge
That new life is in the air

In his wake will come the greening
Bringing forth the infant shoots
As daffodils and crocuses
Send down their thirsty roots

But if the cold should linger on
A day - a week or two
I'll have the hope of springtime
In my heart to see me through
