Laurie R. King's Sherlock Holmes with a twist stories are my favorite of her books. Her main character is Mary, a young woman who is befriended by Holmes, or visa/versa, about 1915. The adventures they have and the mysteries they solve together are the crux of the four books.
Laurie King is an Edgar Award Winner, and her books are well written, absorbing and well crafted.
