Ellis Peters

Ellis Peters was the pen name of Edith Pargenter. She was born about 1903 and died in 1995. She lived most of her life in Shropshire, England.

Her 90 books include current affairs novels, historical novels and the translation of Czech classics into English.

My personal favorites are the Brother Cadfael Series. For those of you who don't know Brother Cadfael, I will tell a little about him. He was Welsh by birth, and served as a crusader in the early 12th Century, fought in the middle east and survived to return to England. He lived a full life and enjoyed it to the hilt. But on his return he became convinced of his calling to the church and entered the monastary of St Peter and St Paul at Shrewsbury. There he brings all the insight, common sense, humor and wisdom of his travels and experiences to bear on the people and problems of the Abby and the town.

He befriends the new young sheriff of Shrewsbury and between them manage to solve the crime and prevent to wrong person from getting blamed. Cadfael also has a soft spot for all young lovers.

I have enjoyed each one of these books.
